DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Company Information
TechSoft UK Ltd. was founded in the mid 1980s and has established itself as the market leading supplier of CAD and CAD/CAM systems (Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture) to schools in the UK. We only stock and supply products that we have total confidence in. Our aim is to provide the right products at the right price, and with the highest levels of support in the industry. To that end all our sales and support staff are either ex Design and Technology teachers, or are graduates with a Design or other relevant degree. This means that not only do we have a wealth of background knowledge, we can talk to teachers in the language that they understand. For these reasons we find that we have a very loyal customer base who keep coming back for more.

TechSoft’s flagship CAD software 2D Design, is now the primary design software in over 5000 schools in the UK. We offer the most comprehensive range of CAM systems available, many of which are exclusive to TechSoft. These systems include: Knife Cutting, Milling/Routing, Laser Cutting, Computerised Sewing /Embroidery and 3D Printing. Many of our machines are exclusive to TechSoft.

Design and Technology Project Management

Due to demand from schools and a belief that we can offer something unique, we have recently launched a Design and Technology Project Management service to allow us to manage and deliver COMPLETE SOLUTIONS for new or refurbished departments.

Our project management team is unique in that we have all taught Design and Technology either in schools or FE. The team even includes three ex Heads of Department. Nearly fifty years of combined teaching experience, and our in-depth knowledge of the latest technologies, allows us to create the best solution for schools.

TechSoft can project manage the whole process if required; from initial consultations, through design and planning, to supply, installation, commissioning and servicing of the FULL RANGE OF EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS that may be required. Lastly, we also offer the best support and training available to make sure that your new department will be up and running with the minimum of hassle.

We believe our Design and Technology background gives us the depth of knowledge to bridge the gap between schools and main contractors, enabling the creation of departments which work for teachers and pupils whilst fitting within the constraints of the overall project. Our unrivalled expertise in CAD/CAM allows us to offer the highest level of guidance and support in the area of the curriculum where change is the most rapid.
Department Equipment
Consultation
We are able to give advice on choosing the right equipment which will enhance teaching and learning and meet current BS 4163:2007 standards. If we are involved at an early enough stage we can also offer advice on the design and planning of workshops and classrooms, taking into account the important issues highlighted within Building Bulletin 81, such as Health and Safety (eg., fume and dust extraction); Learning Spaces for different material areas; Non-teaching support spaces; Furniture that can be flexible and (importantly) will last; Machines and equipment that will meet the current and future needs of a department; Services and environmental design.

Consultation

Curriculum Audits
Our experienced D&T team are available to discuss the future needs of a D&T Department so that a suitable list of requirements can be drawn up.

Planning

Design and Planning
After consultation with the school, architects and main contractor we are able to produce detailed design layouts, using CAD, for the proposed rooms. Our D&T teaching experience puts us in a unique position to be able to design layouts that work on a day-to-day basis and which take into account practical considerations as well as current legislation.

Auditing

Equipment Audits
When moving to a new department it is usual for the majority of machines and equipment to be new. However, it can sometimes be possible to carry forward items to the new department. We can carry out equipment audits and offer advice as to whether it would be advantageous to do so.

Installation

Mechanical and Electrical (M&E)
We are able to provide full M&E information (eg., electrical phase and loading; connection type; machine weight and mounting options; fume and dust extraction requirements) for the proposed machinery and equipment. This information is made available to the architects and the main M&E contractor so that they can take into account any special requirements.

Installation
Our team of Project Managers will oversee the delivery and installation of all equipment to make sure that the project runs smoothly and that we deliver on time and install to a high quality.

Training

Familiarisation / Training
Once installation is complete, and the teaching staff can access the department, we are able to provide general familiarisation of all the machinery and equipment. We are also able to offer more in-depth training where required. Our unique expertise in CAD/CAM means that we can not only support teachers in the use of their new CAD/CAM software and machinery (an area which usually requires more input than the traditional workshop machinery), but also in its day to day applications with students.
