What are Craft ROBOs?
Craft ROBO is a range of vinyl and card cutting machines, manufactured by Graphtec. The Craft ROBO range comprises of two machines the smaller Craft ROBO - TS and the higher specification Craft ROBO-TS Pro II. Both machines have optical sensors allowing drawings, printed using conventional ink-jet or laser printers, to be transferred to the Craft ROBO for cutting. |

What does the TS mean?
A standard Craft ROBO (CC200-20) and Craft ROBO Pro II (CE5000-40) are supplied with their own piece of drawing software and a separate driver. Although you can use the Craft ROBO with the supplied software, your options will be limited, and at times tedious.
To enhance the standard Craft ROBOs for educational users, TechSoft have developed an extension for 2D Design V2 and Primary Design V2 (to be released as soon as possible). This extension allows you to output directly to the Craft ROBO - TS and Craft ROBO - TS Pro II, without the fuss of other software or drivers. TechSoft’s extension not only simplifies the use of this machine, but also gives you greater control.
The Craft ROBO - TS range is available exclusively from TechSoft and includes the Craft ROBO extension and an educational INSET pack.
(N.B. The Craft ROBO extension can only be used with 2D Design V2, or Primary Design V2, which must be purchased separately.) |

What can I do with a Craft ROBO-TS in school?
To illustrate the versatility of these machines, we have listed below just some of the materials that can be cut with a Craft ROBO - TS and Craft ROBO - TS Pro II.
Vinyl
The ability to cut self-adhesive vinyl (or fablon, etc.) to produce lettering, logos, etc., can enhance many projects. Forget rough hand drawn or painted artwork. Quality product detailing is achieved, which is vital to provide the professional standard of finish that pupils (and examiners!) expect. For items such as toys and games, this is virtually indispensable.
Card
For such a small machine the Craft ROBO - TS packs a real punch and has the power to cut, crease (creasing tool supplied in Inset Pack) and/or score card. Being a larger machine the Craft ROBO - TS Pro II easily cuts and scores card and does so at a faster rate. Both machines enable you to produce pieces of cardboard engineering, modelling, packaging, etc. They also have an optical sensor. When this device is combined with 2D Design V2 and the great choice of printable materials from TechSoft, these machines become ideal for small scale print and cut work.
Printable Vinyl
A special vinyl that can be printed and cut, to produce really high quality full colour decals.
Label Paper
This allows high quality self-adhesive labels to be made for food packaging, decals, point of sale displays, etc.
Standard Iron-on Vinyl
Iron-on vinyl has many uses in Textiles Technology. It is ideal for T-shirts and other garments. The process has many educational implications for textiles design work. Schools can easily badge their own uniforms, produce “specials” such as sweatshirts for trips abroad, personalise the sports kit with students’ names and numbers (what a psychological advantage for inter-school games!), etc.
Printable Iron-on Vinyl
When printed then cut, superb durable full colour iron-on motifs can be produced. For garment decoration this is a must.
Iron-on Flock
Iron-on flock is similar to standard iron-on vinyl, but it has a textured finish to add an extra dimension to textile products.
Ceramicon
Ceramicon is a thin layer of ceramic glaze. Once cut it can be applied to a tile, plate, mug, etc., and fired in a kiln for a permanent dishwasher-proof finish. |

The Craft ROBO - TS and Craft ROBO - TS Pro II are special packages created for educational users and are only available from TechSoft.
Both Craft ROBO- TS machines include a unique extension for 2D Design V2 or Primary Design V2, allowing you to output directly to the machine. A TechSoft Education Inset Pack is also included.

How does Print and Cut work?
In 2D Design V2 select the Craft ROBO - TS to set the correct page layout. The registration marks for print and cut will be created automatically. Design your graphics, drawing the cut path on a separate layer. Print your graphics, minus the cut path, on a colour inkjet or laser printer, and then feed the printed material into the Craft ROBO - TS or Craft ROBO - TS Pro II. From 2D Design V2 select File > CNC Output to output the cut path to the machine. Set the speed and pressure in Pens/Tools, click Output and the Craft ROBO will do the rest. After the optical sensor has found the registration marks, the machine will cut around your design.

All you need is Design Tools - 2D Design V2 or Primary Design V2, with the relevant Craft ROBO extension (exclusively from TechSoft). |

Why should I buy a Craft ROBO-TS?
Light and compact, the Craft ROBO - TS machines are easy to move between classrooms. They are simple to use with 2D Design V2 or Primary Design V2 and the Craft ROBO extension, and require no maintenance. Neither of the Craft ROBO - TS models is a substitute for a CAMM 1 GX-24E, but they are excellent entry and mid range CAD/CAM tools. As a first buy into CAD/CAM they are a great start, as no matter what else you buy later you will still be using your Craft ROBO - TS.
Using the Craft ROBO- TS extension for Primary Design V2 also makes the machine ideal for primary schools. |
